Verdict

SPECIAL RESERVE is given the vote to finally get off the mark at the tenth attempt, despite the worry of seven placings among the nine starts to date. Ten furlongs does look to be the correct trip for Special Reserve and the sprint that resulted in the slow early pace last time out would not have been to his liking. Although he is no star, this contest may not take much winning. Wellington Square could emerge as the biggest threat to the selection. He finished very strongly to take third place at Windsor on debut and with nominal improvement he has a leading chance. Star Rocker is another once raced sort that can be expected to improve. The second from his Doncaster debut justified odds on favouritism subsequently but even so, the general consensus was that the particular Doncaster maiden did not have much strength in depth. There are a number of interesting newcomers in the field, among them the Gary Moore trained filly Watercolours, related to two juvenile winners and Ralph Beckett¿s Quick Flash. Any support for Quick Flash would make her of interest, given the fact the trainer has introduced a couple of smart juvenile fillies in recent weeks. The initial impression is that this maiden will not take much winning and Special Reserve is the selection.
