Verdict
Division one of the auction maiden and with two 79-rated contenders in it, the newcomers will have to be pretty smart to land it while of the remainder with experience, none have displayed anything to concern connections of the top-rated pair. Amanda Perrett's ADMIRAL SANDHOE is selected to land it on the evidence of an eye-catching third last time over the course, a maiden that had a stronger profile than today's contest. Slowly away and possibly out-paced which would have to be the concern, he finished with a real flourish and was closing on the leading pair as the line approached. One place behind him was the exposed 80-rated Heliodor, who despite that comment, had shown enough previously to believe that this was an above average maiden given his final finishing position. Bloodlines suggest Admiral Sandhoe will be more effective over further but the hope would be if he can lie up in the early stages, his experience and stamina can see him through in the latter stages. The other 79-rated contender is Hi Shinko who stepped up considerably on what he had shown with a second placing in a Windsor maiden, that contest looking a below average maiden for the venue. There was also a distinct ease in the ground at Windsor on that particular evening. The form was not left down by the winner who ran respectably off 74 on her first start in nursery company however, of those behind the third was beaten out of sight in a Bath maiden subsequently. Richard Hannon holds a 23% strike rate with his juveniles at this venue this season and his newcomer Security Joan, a Dubai Destination filly, should be monitored in the market. Millway Beach drops back to six furlongs after two starts over seven furlongs. It could well have been that the ground at Goodwood was much too quick as that was the excuse provided by many connected with disappointed sorts at the meeting but Pat Eddery's charge showed distinct promise on debut, racing green in the early stages before the penny dropped late on. Two winners have already emerged from that event. Other newcomers of note include Paddythefish, a half-brother to the highly regarded Checklow while Mick Channon's Barood is another worth keeping a close eye on in the market. The form of Dametime's fifth in a Curragh maiden is sceptical as the majority of those failed to handle the conditions and the field were strung out the length of the Kildare venue. An interesting division to the auction maiden and ADMIRAL SANDHOE is selected to land it.
