Australis finished ahead of Rainbow Dreamer, Rajinsky and Reshoun when runner-up in this last year though was beaten by Island Brave over track and trip subsequently. Mildenberger and Hochfeld may prove best of Mark Johnston’s five runners but the latter finished behind DUBIOUS AFFAIR (NAP) at Ascot earlier this month when Charlie Fellowes’s mare went close over 1m6f. Due to be raised 4lb for that run, she’ll be sharper today and can be forgiven a below-par effort in soft ground at Ascot last autumn behind Group 2 Long Distance Cup winner Trueshan. The latter ran well in the Ormonde at Chester on his return and an apprentice’s allowance reduces his burden back in a handicap for the first time since well beaten in last year’s Ebor. Irish raider Grandmaster Flash never figured in the Chester Plate last month while Galata Bridge and Alright Sunshine are upped in class.
