Jonathan Joseph says he is ready to do a job on the wing if it means forcing his way into the Lions' Test side.
The England centre will start in his regular position against the Hurricanes on Tuesday as all bar one of Saturday's Test squad is rested for the tourists' final midweek game.
But Joseph has made it clear he is not limited to a midfield role as he prepares to scrap for a starting spot against New Zealand in Wellington at the weekend.
"I'd feel confident playing on the wing," he said. "I've played there before. Being a rugby player, you're used to slotting into different positions. And yeah, I feel confident there.
"The type of player I am I feel it's not too tough for me to shift onto the wing, like Elliot Daly. I feel like we're quite similar players. So potentially I could slot onto the wing if needed.
"But everyone, of course, wants to get into that Saturday team, and to do so in their preferred position."
Warren Gatland's team for the first Test defeat to New Zealand was influenced by last week's win against the Chiefs, when the performances of Daly and Liam Williams earned them surprise starting places.
Wing Williams' selection in a less familiar full-back role also gave Lions squad members encouragement that the coaching staff are prepared to adapt their plans to suit players' form.
Another regular on the wing, Jack Nowell, will wear the No 15 shirt against the Hurricanes in Wellington, and he said: "In terms of Test selection, the most pleasing thing is anything can happen.
"The coaches are changing it, if you do well and if you do perform well they're going to pick you and play you.
"I've played 15 for Exeter this year, and Rob Howley has said he'll back me in that position as well, so that's great. For them to trust me to put the 15 shirt on and play in that position, that's very pleasing."
