Leinster wing Fergus McFadden has been suspended for three weeks after an incident during the win over Connacht on New Year's Day.

Josh van der Flier's controversially-awarded try helped Leinster edge to a 13-0 PRO12 victory at a wet and windy RDS Arena.

But McFadden was cited after the viewing of video footage that showed the Irish star appearing to make contact with the head of Connacht's Nathan White during a ruck.

McFadden appeared in Edinburgh before an independent PRO12 Rugby Disciplinary Committee on Wednesday having been been accused of stamping or trampling on an opponent in contravention of Law 10.4 (b).

The player accepted he had committed an act of foul play and that it would have warranted a red card.

Fadden was found to have acted recklessly and that the offence merited a mid-range entry point based on World Rugby's scale of seriousness, which carries a five-week playing suspension.

It was also found that there were no aggravating factors and there were several mitigating factors, including McFadden's acknowledgement of wrongdoing and his previous clean disciplinary record, and therefore his suspension was reduced by two weeks.
