Verdict
Pacific Pride can beat the likes of Red Clubs and Advanced, with Mutawajid and Balthazaar's Gift just a couple more to note. Pacific Pride has been touted for this since his demolition job over moderate opposition at Ayr last month, but it is his earlier form here that gives him a major chance. The son of Compton Place belied his starting odds of 66-1 by getting to within two lengths of Red Clubs in the Coventry Stakes despite still being far from the finished article. He had Amadeus Wolf and Sir Xaar behind on that occasion and should comfortably beat that pair again. By all accounts he has done everything asked of him at home in preparation for today's test and can come through with flying colours, in receipt of five-pound from Red Clubs now. Advanced has plenty of scope but is a big horse and may find this test coming too soon, but he is certainly one to follow for next term. Mutawajid bombed out badly in the Richmond Stakes at Goodwood but is worth a second look now that he encounters faster conditions, as does Balthazaar's Gift who bids to make the jump from a Windsor maiden. Titus Alone let his supporters down at Newbury last time but was successful in the Windsor Castle here at the Royal meeting and is worth noting now that he tackles an extra furlong. plenty in with chances then, but we return to Pacific Pride as the answer.
