Verdict
As ever in this sort of contest the market should be watched for any support for the newcomers, with five of the scheduled fourteen making their debut, but we'll side with experience and select FLORA TREVELYAN ahead of Piquante and Silk Trail. Walter Swinburn's filly made an eye-catching debut in the autumn when runner up in a similar race, and was second again on her re-appearance last month. It's her first time on turf and she qualifies for handicap company after this. Piquante steps down in trip from a decent fourth last month, and Michael Bell's banging out the winners at the moment, particularly from his crop of three year olds. Along with Flora Trevelyan she's the only one here to have two races behind her. Silk Trail is Godolphin's only runner on the card; she ran a little green on debut at Lingfield in October but still finished second. If she's trained-on well over the winter, she could add to her relatives' list of successes. Sir Michael Stoute's won this race twice in the last three years, and Strawberrydaiquiri was unlucky to encounter trouble in running on debut at Wolverhampton to finish second. This sort of contest certainly looks within her scope. She's another making her turf debut. It could be lively in the betting ring, but our support goes with Flora Trevelyan.
