        Verdict

        The first of two events on the Polytrack and as All-Weather staying events go, this looks quite competitive. Look First has plenty of form here and looks sure to go well, as does stablemate Hefin, but a chance is taken with the beautifully bred Macmillan, who steps into handicap company for the first time. He will need to improve on what he has achieved so far, but this step up in trip could be what he wants, and with everything else in the field looking exposed, he is at least open to some improvement. Look First bolted up over course and distance back in January, off a 5lbs lower mark. While he has struggled since then with the Handicapper, he is gradually coming down in the weights and it would be no surprise to see him go well here. However, the main threat could come from his stablemate Hefin, who turned in a sound effort at Musselburgh last month, and has been dropped 2lbs since. He does have form here and with John Egan taking the reins, is one to keep an eye on, as is Comtesse Noire, who will be tackling this trip for the first time. She has struggled over a variety of trips and it could be that this trip will be the making of her, in which case she will be worth a small fortune to breed with, as she is from the same family as 1000 Guineas third Negligent. However, we will stick with Macmillan in the hope that this trip brings about improvement in him.
