In depth

Verdict

A useful hurdler, Oliver Cromwell has yet to shine over fences and is best watched for the time being, while Elenas River will surely be more intent on getting round safely, after failing to complete on his last two outings. The frustrating High Cotton can usually be relied upon to find one or two to good for him, so this comes down to a match between Hersov and Stormez. The former is lightly raced and is open to any amount of improvement. He made a successful debut over fences at Leicester, albeit in a moderate contest, but he was some way behind Stormez over hurdles and looks set to play the bridesmaid in this. Martin Pipe's six-year-old can be forgiven his effort in the Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup for he made a couple of early mistakes that day and was never able to get competitive thereafter. He had a progressive profile before that and can get back on the winning trail here.
