In depth

Verdict

The in-form Fossgate can strike again in this company, with Shekan Star and Baileys Encore fancied to pose the most resistance. The last named showed a good attitude when scoring at Redcar last time, relishing every yard of his first try at a mile and a quarter. Mark Johnston is a terrific judge of a horses stamina, so it can safely be assumed that he will cope with the extra demands of today's distance. Shekan Star deserves a change of fortune after posting a series of near misses. However, she is creeping up the weighs without winning and now needs everything to go her way. Therefore, we prefer to go with Fossgate, who has proved his toughness in a finish of late and, as he is still potentially well treated, James Bethel's charge edges the verdict in this company.
