Argentina second rower Mariano Galarza will miss the rest of the Rugby World Cup after losing his appeal against a nine-week ban.
The 28-year-old Gloucester man was cited after he was accused of making contract with the 'eye area' of Brodie Retallick during last Sunday's loss to New Zealand.
And an appeal committee has now ruled that the judicial officer's midweek decision to ban Galarza was correct.
A statement from World Rugby read: "The appeal was heard by an Appeal Committee chaired by Prof Lorne Crerar (Scotland), sitting with Justice Graeme Mew (Canada) and Robbie Deans (New Zealand).
"The Appeal Committee determined that the Judicial Officer had not erred in finding that the player had committed an act of foul play.
"The Appeal Committee also found that the sanction imposed by the Judicial Officer was in accordance with World Rugby's prescribed sanctioning regime."
Galarza will be suspended for Argentina's remaining pool games at the World Cup, which count as a week each, and for Gloucester until November 26.
Argentina bounced back from their loss to the All Blacks with a 54-9 win over Georgia on Friday and are next in action against Tonga next Sunday.
