Force hooker suffers recurrence of neck injury

Western Force hooker Ryan Tyrrell has been forced to hang up his boots after a recurrence of a neck injury. The 27-year-old made five appearances for the Force in 2010 before suffering the injury against the Waratahs. Having missed the remainder of the season following surgery, Tyrrell made an impressive return to pre-season. However after suffering discomfort in his neck on the training field, Tyrrell has decided to call time on his career. "Ryan worked extremely hard over the past six months to recover from a neck operation and to become a better rugby player," Force coach Richard Graham told the club's official site. "I had no hesitation in rewarding Ryan with an extended contract for this season given that he'd fulfilled the expectations placed upon him, however he has made the difficult decision in terms of his rugby future to retire and it's unfortunate that it has come about because of injury."
