Scotland's Ryan Grant to undergo scan as World Cup hopes hang in balance

Scotland loose-head prop Ryan Grant’s World Cup hopes hang in the balance after he was injured in Saturday’s 28-22 defeat to Ireland.
There were initial fears he may have suffered an ankle fracture in Dublin and had that happened he would definitely have missed the tournament.
An x-ray has shown that is not the case and for now he still has a chance of making the squad but he will have a more detailed scan later in the week to determine how serious the problem is.
Coach Vern Cotter has to name his final squad for the tournament – which runs from September 18 to October 31 – by August 31.
He has been boosted in other areas by generally good news concerning the other players who were hurt at the Aviva Stadium.
Tight-head prop Jon Welsh went off seven minutes into the second half for a head injury assessment and concussion was confirmed.
He is now symptom-free, however, and the Newcastle Falcons player has started the graduated return-to-play protocol.
Hugh Blake dislocated a finger against the Irish but has already resumed full training and although Fraser Brown has mild hamstring discomfort, he is being monitored by medics.
Glasgow Warriors hooker Kevin Bryce, capped twice previously by his national side, has joined the squad for training this week as a precaution.
