Warriors coach hopes to carry Cup result into league

Glasgow coach Sean Lineen was happy to maintain winning momentum after his side's 29-25 Heineken Cup victory against Newport-Gwent Dragons. The Magners League leaders scored two tries in the opening four minutes at Firhill but had to hold out desperately in the final minute to ensure the win against their bogey team. Lineen was able to find positives in the match, saying: "The most important thing was that we won and so kept up the winning momentum." Focusing on the Magners League, he said: "That is our side that will play during the Six Nations, and they now have the winning habit. We also have tonight's win up our sleeves ahead of the Dragons' return in April." With the match effectively meaningless in terms of Cup qualification, Lineen rested seven internationals and gave starts to a number of fringe players The coach reserved praise for young fly-half Ruaridh Jackson of whom big things are expected. Lineen said: "Considering Ruaridh had only had that minute of rugby before he was injured in the first game if the season he did OK. He was rusty but he was trying things." Lineen also acknowledged that Glasgow lost their composure in the middle third of the game and that had brought an early end to Jackson's night. "I changed the half backs sooner than I had intended [in the 51st minute]. Dan Parks and scrum-half Mark McMillan immediately brought control," he said.

Frustration

Dragons coach Paul Turner was happy with the way his side played after a poor run over the holiday period but was still frustrated that they failed to take the win. He said: "We had a horrendous Christmas period. It started with the home defeat to Biarritz, then we let the game against the Scarlets slip away before we capitulated to the Blues. But tonight we again played some football. "There was only one team in it in the second half. That was after they got a rocket at half-time. In the old days a few players would have been hung up by the pegs." Both coaches were united in their criticism of referee Peter Fitzgibbon, however. Turner said: "I don't think the official was very good. There were so many errors it doesn't make the job of Sean and myself easy." Lineen added: "The Dragons could have won the game off a forward pass right at the end. That's not acceptable."
