The three-year-old Irv stayed on strongly to beat an arguably stronger field over course and distance at the end of last month. He’s gone up 6lb but any further progress would make him tough to beat. Just Hiss likes it here and has been threatening to get his head back in front this year so has to go on the short-list. Mustarrid should be approaching peak fitness after a couple of runs this summer while Baltic Baron has been gelded since failing to cope with Tapeta at Newcastle last month. UNIVERSAL GLEAM’s only poor run this season came over 1m2f. Both victories have come on fast surfaces so he’ll have his ground again.
