A poor race by the track's standards and, what can only be a tentative vote goes to Tomasino, who is preferred to Eton and African Sunset. The last mentioned is lightly raced on the flat but has given little sign of encouragement over hurdles and may be best watched. The David Nicholls-trained Eton has become a frustrating character but has to be respected in a contest of this nature, along with Ile Michel, although the last mentioned has failed to sparkle since joining current connections from the yard of Lady Herries. Brian Meehan's Makulu may struggle to give weight away all round and, with Curate seemingly out of his depth, this is best left to Tomasino. Mary Reveley's gelding may lack a recent run but, if fit enough for his return, is well enough treated to beat some moderate rivals.
