In depth

Verdict

There may not be too many get into this maiden and Amanda Perrett's Westland looks capable of taking it, with Lake Carezza and Stage School others to consider. The selection's claims are based on a debut second to Bailey Gate in maiden company at Newbury a couple of weeks ago, when he was unlucky not to finish closer than he did after being hampered. That proved he can handle this softer ground and with Fallon booked he looks capable of going one better this time. Lake Carezza made a pleasing debut at York over this trip last month, when he ran green enough and got the hang of things late on, when he was not knocked about. He will definitely come on for that and if he handles the ground then he could be a real threat. Of the others, Stage School will get every inch of this trip first time up and comes form the still-in-form Mark Johnston yard. The trainer has had first time winners already this week and if anyone can do that here then the Middleham-based maestro is the man. However, we do not know if the filly will handle cut and so we will look to Westland to land the prize.
