Verdict

Like a lot of the stable's horses, Gerard Butler's Compton Bolter has not run up to his best this term and, with Godolphin's Naheef also out of form, it might be worth taking a chance on the fitness of Ovambo. Peter Makin's gelding has been off the track for the best part of two years but had been in good form prior to his absence and the stable is quite capable of readying a horse after an absence. Gerald Cottrell's Hawridge Prince comes into this in better heart than most but needs to improve again to trouble the judge. Foodbroker Founder has given little sign of encouragement this term but David Elsworth's horses are in better form now. He rates a bigger threat than the maiden Sadler's Rock, while Richard Hannon's Tizzy May has not won since his two-year-old days and again looks one to avoid. Lack of a recent run may be of concern to backers of Ovambo but in the absence of a viable alternative he looks worth a bet.
