BEAU BALKO dropped away tamely on his chasing debut at Ffos Las while Scarface didn’t look a natural over fences at Ascot but the former, in particular, will strip fitter here and will probably handle the ground better than most. Tritonic was a Grade 2 and Grade 3 winner over hurdles and has also won three times on the Flat but is not really bred for chasing. Soul Icon is also jumping fences for the first time but does boast an impressive strike-rate over timber.
Tritonic 28-1 (9-7) Mid-division, headway tracking leaders over 4f out, weakened approaching final furlong, 13th of 31, 15l behind The Shunter (9-1) at Newmarket 2m 2f hcp (2) sft in Oct.
Soul Icon 4-1fav (11-5) Led, joined 7th, headed 2 out, hit last, plugged on one pace flat, 4th of 16, 8 3/4l behind Pinnacle Peak (10-2) at Cheltenham 2m 4f hcp (3) gd in Oct.
Beau Balko (FR) 4-1 (11-2) Hampered by faller 1st, prominent 3rd, pushed along and weakened tamely 3 out, 5th of 6, 23 3/4l behind Matata (11-10) at Ffos Las 2m hcp (3) gs in Oct.
Scarface (IRE) 13-2 (11-7) Off the pace in last pair, never on terms, 6th of 9, 32 1/4l behind Sir Psycho (11-8) at Ascot 2m 3f hcp (3) sft in Nov.
