West End Lad was good value for his win on a softish surface at Nottingham last time and, under similar conditions today, Roy Bowring's gelding is taken to follow up that success and defy the 9lb rise for that success, getting the verdict ahead of Dispol Isle and Myfrenchconnection. The last mentioned ran better at Pontefract last time and has solid claims racing off the same mark again today. King of Rhythm is inconsistent and just one win from 17 starts makes him easy to discount, while Shotley Mac is probably better over seven furlongs than a mile. Aussie Blue would have claims on the pick of his form but was very disappointing at Pontefract last time and now looks best left out of calculations, with a bigger threat looking to be Dispol Isle. David Barron's mare is only 4lbs higher than when scoring at Beverley when last seen last month and has every chance but marginal preference is for West End Lad, who is taken to supplement his recent Nottingham success.
