In depth

Verdict

Despite a hard-fought success last time, the step back up in trip means that QUINTE DU CHATELET is an attractive proposition in search of his hat-trick, while Haveyouseenme and Comehomequietly are respected in opposition. The David Pipe-trained pick won easily over three miles before being dropped back to two last time and still having enough speed to win at Leicester. The handicapper didn't miss that and he has gone up 9lbs for today's race, but he remains unexposed when there is a test of stamina like today's and we will stick with him. Haveyouseenme has been brought along steadily by Nigel Twiston-Davies, who has a had a lean time of things, bad weather or not. His seven-year-old acts with cut and stays this far and a decent run would not surprise. Comehomequietly won't mind the ground and ran well in defeat to Galaxy Rock at Ffos Las in December. A 2lb rise for that looks fair enough and he can go well. Parlesotho loves some cut and if able to reproduce his best he would have claims here in first-time headgear, though on recent evidence it will have to have a big effect for him to win. Stablemate Mount Helicon has the potential for significant improvement for this step up in trip, as he stays 1m 4f on the flat, and he also acts with cut. He is feared, but Quinte Du Chatelet is the one to beat.
