Our vote here goes to Brandy Cove with the main dangers being McQueen, Quiet Reading, Sangiovese, Pup's Pride and Lucayan Monarch. The selection has won three times over course and distance and, rated four pounds higher than for the most recent of them, has also to be given a chance. Also, he was probably not ridden to best effect on his last outing and can be rated better than that. McQueen sluiced up over course and distance last time and, even under a 13lb rise in the ratings, has to be considered. Tropical Coral is well treated on his turf form but is untried on the surface. Quiet Reading is rated four pounds higher than for the second of his course and distance wins so has to be given a squeak. Sangiovese is also interesting. From Hughie Morrison's stable, he was returning from an absence when third here in October. Normal improvement from that run will entitle him to supporters - although he ran poorly when beaten at Lingfield next time. Allegrina is now 16lbs better off for the ten lengths she finished behind McQueen at Wolverhampton in November and, now equipped with blinkers for the first time, has an outside chance. It depends on what view you take about fillies in blinkers, I guess. Faraway Look is well weighted on the basis of her two Wolverhampton wins, but he hasn't won for three years and is now debuting on the surface. Pup's Pride could be coming here chasing four-timer (he was down to run on Friday) and, if running, has to be considered also. He's a deal course and distance winner. Lucayan Monarch is also back to a winning mark although he finished behind Brandy Cove here last time. However, Dean McKeown takes over from an inexperienced rider and connections are persevering with cheekpieces on the gelding too. It's not a straightforward race by any means but, knowing he likes the surface, we'll stick with Brandy Cove.
