In depth

Verdict

McEldowney is the pick over Mossman Gorge, Mi Odds and Amwell Brave. Although the Mark Johnston stable is yet to start firing on all cylinders, McEldowney shaped well enough at Catterick last time to be given the nod here. The four-year-old found only the odds-on Saif Sareea too good at the North Yorkshire track and lines up on only a 3lb higher mark than when completing a hat-trick at Wolverhampton last September. Mossman Gorge was not given the most positive of rides by his apprentice partner when going for a third straight win here last time, and with Seb Sanders taking over, he should go well from the bottom of the handicap as he is still well in compared to last year's ratings. Mi Odds is also well treated but is on the downgrade now, while Amwell Brave has been hard to place. Sand Repeal has the assistance of Jamie Spencer, but will do well to defy topweight, with McEldowney the percentage call.
