In depth

Verdict

The three-year-old Flash Ram looks to have been found a suitable opportunity to open his account and gets the vote do so against some exposed older horses, the best of who looks to be Amanda's Lad and Dark Champion. The last mentioned has had plenty of chances, including in similarly weak contests, but is still even less exposed than Amanda's Lad, who is having his 48th career outing today. It says much for the quality of the line up that these two have more solid claims than the likes of Smart Minister and Compton Princess. Neither Lord of The Fens nor I See No Ships have given much sign of encouragement so far and, while Amber Fox has to be respected now that Alan Berry's stable is back among the winners, the vote goes to Flash Ram. Tim Easterby's colt is no world-beater but his form is solid, the son of Mind Games is less exposed than most of his rivals and Flash Ram has an obvious chance to open his account.
