Bryan McMahon's Starchy showed much improved form when collared close home by his better-fancied stablemate Pivotal Flame at Doncaster last month and is taken to open his account here at the main expense of Xeeran and Hidden Jewel. The last mentioned is an interesting newcomer from the back to form yard of Mark Johnston. Being by Cadeaux Genereux, he should go on the ground but the lack of a previous outing has to be of concern and it can often pay to side with a two-year-old with experience at this time of year. The Michael Jarvis-trained Xeeran has shown a similar level of form in recent outings and again should handle the ground. She makes more appeal than Sir Mark Prescott's Oblique, who has been well beaten in both starts so far on the all-weather and is not certain to handle the testing conditions. The booking of Kieren Fallon for Mark Wallace's Athboy Nights takes the eye and he is another to consider along with Layed Back Rocky but the vote goes to Hidden Jewel. The son of Forzando put previous form behind him when second at Doncaster and a reproduction of that effort should suffice for Bryan McMahon's colt.
