The two chief contenders have something to prove here. AL ZIR was aimed high last year with a fourth in a Group 3 at Newmarket in October his best effort. Quietly fancied to make a winning reappearance over 1m2f, he found little in the closing stages and a chance is taken today's drop in trip will spark a revival. Border Patrol was a Group 3 winner in 2009 but disappointed in only two starts last year and the likely fast ground is a worry. As for the remainder, the selection's stablemate La De Two needs further, while Balcarce Nov and Vitznau look up against it on today's terms.
Al Zir (USA) 11-4 (8-12) Dwelt, recovered to lead after 1f and set steady pace, ridden over 2f out, headed 2f out, weakened over 1f out, eased, 7th of 8, 11l behind City Leader (8-12) at Goodwood 1m 2f Listed Stakes (4yo+) (1) gf in May.
Balcarce Nov (ARG) 14-1 (9-1) Led 1f, remained prominent, ridden to challenge over 2f out, led over 1f out, headed inside final furlong, no extra, 3rd of 11, 1 1/2l behind Our Jonathan (9-0) at Chester 7f hcp 0-105 (2) gd in May.
Vitznau (IRE) 16-1 (8-7) Slowly away, settled rear, never dangerous, last of 14, 12l behind Across The Rhine (8-11) at Meydan(UAE) 7f hcap gd in Feb.
