Verdict

Somewhat stretched out well to beat subsequent Doncaster winner Be Ready in a Listed race at Newbury last month and looks a nice prospect. But he gives the impression he'll be ideally suited by more give in the ground and he was eight lengths behind BERKSHIRE in the Chesham Stakes at Ascot in June. Paul Cole has deliberately kept his colt back for an autumn campaign and, as the extra furlong will suit, looks the one to beat ahead of Washaar, who finished a couple of lengths behind Somewhat in the Superlative Stakes over 7f here in July. Kingfisher was well beaten in a Group 3 at Leopardstown earlier this month and, like Sir Jack Layden, has a lot on his plate here.
