All the cliches about watching the betting market apply; and the selection of Francesca D'Gorgio is made in the hope that her previous form is strong enough for her to see off the likes of Aaim For Applause and Major Willy, who make the most appeal from the rest with experience. Alls fair and Driven Snow are interesting newcomers to bear in mind, as both make appeal on pedigree and represent yards more than capable of readying one to strike first time out. Major Willy was in behind a hot pot of Aidan O'Brien's on debut and is entitled to have come on for the run. However, that form has taken a few knocks in recent weeks and an improved effort would appear to be necessary. Aaim For Applause has been the model of consistency up to press - having made the frame on four separate occasions. His experience will stand him in good stead and, as Mick Channon's colt has a likeable attitude, it would come as no surprise to see him gain some just reward for his near misses. However, Francesca D'Gorgio gets that very handy fillies allowance today, which will make life hard for the rest if she runs to the form of her fifth-place effort in the Cherry Hinton (Group 2) here earlier in the month. The Sir Robert Ogden-owned filly also went close in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot, so appears to be the logical choice to gain that illusive first win in this lesser grade.
