Verdict

Hadrian is the one that they all have to beat here, with Song of Songs expected to give him most to do, and Top Spec likely to run well without being good enough. Hadrian should take all the beating judged on the manner of his back-to-back successes at Epsom and Haydock. Mark Johnston was not afraid to pitch the son of King's Best in amongst older opposition at Epsom and he did not disappoint, battling gamely to beat Langford. The in-form Middleham trainer tried the same trick at Haydock last time, and he duly defied another rise in the weights. This step up to 10 furlongs looks ideal, and he can once again see off his manly older rivals before being aimed at an even better prize, perhaps the Totesport Mile at Goodwood next Friday. His main opponent here is the other three-year-old Song of Songs, whose Doncaster maiden win over Political Intrigue was advertised by the latter at Leicester midweek. Top Spec was not beaten far at Sandown two days ago, and if lining up, can be involved, but the one to be on is Hadrian.
