Elnawin is feared but there are reasons for taking him on and we'll do so in selecting CHEVETON ahead of Jargelle. Robert Winston's mount has had plenty of racing despite having made his debut as a four-year-old and, unlike a couple of today's rivals, is a real five-furlong specialist with all seven of his wins having come at the trip. The gelding also seems to enjoy some cut, has won over course and distance and won first time out last year. He'll need a career best to win off this rating but there could be more to come and he's got his conditions. Elnawin should be all the better for his comeback run at Kempton but there are two very real concerns; he's never raced over five furlongs and he's yet to face ground with the word 'soft' in the description. There's no denying he's shown good pace in his races and he shapes as though the trip won't be a problem, but at the likely prices he's just about worth taking on in our view. Like our selection, Jargelle is a course and distance winner with a fair record fresh, so Kevin Ryan's filly can take a hand in the finish if she copes with a bit of cut which isn't guaranteed. Rowe Park tends to improve for his first run back and is interesting as a horse whose wins have all come at this trip, certainly more so than Tamagin who has actually won over a mile and will likely be outpaced early. Fullandby has Fallon in the plate and acts with cut but, despite the fact he's won over five, now he's eight years of age he's arguably lost a bit of his speed. Sohraab reserves his best for better ground and Desert Phantom hasn't been at his best since returning from injury, so we'll select Cheveton in a race with more questions than answers.
