Dickensbury Lad scored over the course and distance on his debut and should have learnt enough to follow up here at the expense of Gan Eagla and Navado. Having been bought unraced at the Doncaster May Sales, Dickensbury Lad gave connections a pleasant surprise when opening his account at the first time of asking at Market Rasen last month. Niggled along to secure victory despite running green, he can only improve for that and can follow up. Ex-Irish Gan Eagla may give him most to do, coming as he does from the in-form stable of Venetia Williams. Fourth at Taunton, he will be interesting when going into handicaps. Navado was quite a useful handicapper for Sir Michael Stoute on the Flat but has not impressed over hurdles yet. He surely has more to offer but is best watched for the time being, with Dickensbury Lad already having shown what he can do, offered as a more logical choice in the opener.
