Mr Mafia is looking a light of former days while it is almost three years since Vivas last won a race, though he hasn’t been running badly this spring. Oxwich Bay and Fugitives Drift have a chance on the form book but aren’t really proven over this sort of trip. THE LATE LEGEND was left clear by the last-fence fall of Dazzling Glory at Warwick and is 5lb higher. But Tom Weston’s stayer is still well treated on his form from the season before last and can complete a double.
Mr Mafia (IRE) 22-1 (11-9) Led until after 3rd, led 5th, headed 7th, led 9th, headed after next, lost place before 12th, well behind 14th, 5th of 7, dist behind Broken Quest (12-0) at Market Rasen 3m hcp (3) gd in May.
Vivas (FR) 10-3 (11-8) Waited with in 4th, went 3rd 15th, pushed along before 4 out, stayed on same pace, 3rd of 5, 5 3/4l behind Broken Quest (11-12) at Ludlow 3m hcp (3) gd in Apr.
Fugitives Drift (IRE) 9-4fav (12-0) In touch, pushed along in 5th home turn, ridden and no impression after 2 out, stayed on run-in, no chance with winner, 2nd of 7, 7 1/2l behind Zyon (11-7) at Kempton 2m 5f hcp (4) gd in May.
Oxwich Bay (IRE) 8-1 (11-13) Towards rear, in touch, jumped into 3rd 4 out, soon tracked leader, led narrowly 2 out and ridden, bad mistake and blundered final fence where headed, stayed on but not recover, 2nd of 5, 1 3/4l behind Al Roc (12-2) at Newton Abbot 2m 5f hcp (4) gd in May.
