Hiawatha can continue the good run enjoyed by his stable, with the likes of Tight Squeeze, Haripur and Hail The Chief others to consider in a wide-open handicap. Hiawatha gained his first success since coming over from Ireland when winning a claimer at Wolverhampton just before Christmas, and was bought in by owner Nigel Shields. On his first outing for David Barron at Southwell next time, he seemed to find 11 furlongs too far, but that was a tougher affair anyway, so it was no surprise when he duly returned to the winner's enclosure in another Southwell claimer a fornight ago. The downside was that he left the yard and now makes his debut for yet another stable here. Paul Blockley needs no introduction of course, having enjoyed a tremendous strike-rate this year, and he is sure to get the best out of the five-year-old who lines up off 8st 4lb. Tight Squeeze likes it here, and has taken on the useful Cold Turkey on his last two visits. Peter Hiatt's charge gets on well with Tony Culhane and he should be coming late on the scen to take a hand. Haripur normally goes well after a break but is going up the weights, and Hail The Chief has to give weight away all round. Northside Lodge and Star of Normandie are sure ti have been tuned up for this decent all-weather prize, along with Paragon of Virtue, and naming the winner is no easy task. So, it is with a little trepidation that we pin our hopes on Hiawatha.
