In depth

Verdict

In a decidedly modest opener, we will side with Royal Axminster ahead of Tiegs and Gertie. Irish import Bernabeu might be worth a look in the betting. Go Amwell has a shout for a place on his best pieces of recent form, although his runs at this track thus far have not been great. Royal Axminster looked to be coming to hand last time and the extra two furlongs today should further help the cause. Tiegs at least comes here on the back of a good run, which came at Beverley. War Feather is a bit in and out formwise but the best of his recent efforts do not rule him out of a good run. Falcon Flyer put up an improved effort at Folkestone last time and, lightly raced, could be capable of better, while Gertie is also lightly raced but has shown enough of late to be given some thought today, and the Barney Curley-trained Me Fein has also to be given some thought at today's lowly level. Piano Key is also lightly raced and may be open to some improvement but, for the selection, we will stick with Royal Axminster.
