MA RIDGE is just preferred over Samson Quest and Abbeygate, while Mythical Charm is another with claims at this level; so is worth noting in the betting. The last named is in the veteran stage of his career and has paid his way in win and place money over the years. Obviously those years of active service are taking their toll and he would not be one to trust implicitly. But he has won here twice in the past and, as there is not much strength in depth to the race, he cannot be discounted should the pieces fall into place for him. Abbeygate had a very light campaign last year but will have been sharpened up by a pre-Christmas spin around Wolverhampton. On that occasion, he wasn't beaten far despite his finishing position; so he would also be a player if he can dish out a repeat dose. Samson Quest has endured training problems and only recently came back after a two-year hiatus. He ran too freely here last time out and the gauge was on empty near the finish. He has a good jockey booked to keep him in line today, though, and it would come as no surprise to see the gelding register a more accomplished display. However, Ma Ridge also caught the eye in that same Lingfield race 22 days ago and, having impressed with the way he kept on when they came up the home straight, Ma Ridge looks the best option for his stable (they also send out Kinsman) today.
