Smart Starprincess - whose dam is a half-sister to the very useful Irish filly Rebelline - belied her big odds when finishing third to Romancero over course and distance four days ago. That was a promising effort, as was the Paul Cole-trained Beejay's third to Signor Panattiere at Kempton ten days ago. In that race, she was just a head in front of Miss Brookie and both should be sharper and wiser for the outings. Merlins Pride finished second in a Wolverhampton seller on her debut, which has the look of modest form. Of the newcomers in this fillies' only race, Brian Meehan's Dolce Piccata stands out. Speedily-bred, she is sure to know her job and should be noted in the betting. Fabuco cost 25,000gns and certainly has winners in her pedigree but may need this initial run. There is plenty of speed in Ivory Lace's bloodlines, a similar comment applying to the cheaply-purchased Kumari. However, overall, if the market speaks in her favour, Dolce Piccata could be the one to be on.
