Verdict

Dermot Weld won this four years in a row before Rostropovich halted the sequence last year. The lightly-raced Broad Street, an excellent third behind Latrobe in a similar race over the course and distance last time, and South American import Stivers, represent the yard this time and the former is no forlorn hope. Buckhurst has been a regular at this level since landing a maiden here in April though this will be his first start beyond 1m2f. He just holds Leo De Fury and Guaranteed on their 1-2-3 at the Curragh and the runner-up ran poorly on his only start over this trip while the third could do with some rain. Karl Burke sends smart handicapper Kelly's Dino from Yorkshire though the six-year-old may find this tough while Norway has been making the pace for some illustrious stable companions this campaign and could be doing so again for MOUNT EVEREST. Unraced since beaten a short-head by Japan in the Beresford Stakes last September, he still has entries in the Arc and Melbourne Cup so presumably will be ready to roll despite the long absence.
