In depth

Verdict

Habalwatan is consistent and gets the nod over the improving Inquisitress, while Don't Desert Me and Stoneacre Gareth are expected to have their own little battle if this goes to form. Stoneacre Gareth dead-heated in a similar contest on his penultimate start but was well held off his current mark last time out. He comes here with a little to prove and is difficult to enthuse about too heavily. Don't Desert Me also has improvement to find and hardly looks a blot on the handicap after three modest performances. There are plenty of winners in his pedigree though, so he could feasibly pay his way in due course. Inquisitress bolted up in an egg and spoon race here last time and, although she has to be respected as a progressive rival; it is also debatable if she achieved anything to write home about last time. Therefore, we prefer to stick worth Habalwatan, who has already held his own against stiffer opposition. Clive Brittain is not afraid of a challenge and has often flown high with his aspirations. But the Newmarket handler is unlikely to get too carried away if Habalwatan is successful in this company.
