Nonrunner

In depth

Verdict

SHAMMICK BOY was really well supported on debut before taking second and we fancy compensation awaits here; he can get the better of Cucumber Run and Fountains Flypast in a race where those with form can dominate. Victor Dartnall's runners have been in fair form for a couple of months now and he's a fine record in this type of race, as was shown when our selection finished second to a stablemate last time. He was backed as if defeat were unthinkable, suggesting he's highly-regarded, so providing he can just find a pound or two improvement for that he's the one to beat. Cucumber Run has shown a similar level of form to our pick throughout two starts but didn't look entirely straightforward last time. Representing Nicky Henderson, he's sure to attract a fair degree of market support but we think the Dartnall runner is the one to be with and as such he looks set to represent value. Fountains Flypast did well to win on debut when not unbacked but carrying a penalty to victory in bumpers is a tough ask and he had a hard race that day. Still, on form he sets a fair standard and might just be able to stick on for a place. No Substitute is interesting for Alan King despite a slightly disappointing debut; he's bred to get better with racing and could go close if improving from that first effort with the ground in his favour. Rush Cad is an interesting newcomer for a yard with a good record in these and needs a market check along with Beau Colonel and Marching Song but we have a feeling this might go to Victor Dartnall and Shammick Boy.
