In depth

Verdict

KAHLUA COVE is a half-sister to the smart Amaretto Rose and looks worth chancing on debut, with the Alan King pair of Honest Chance and Hurricane Milly two of a host of dangers. Our selection hails from the yard of Nicky Henderson and his runners are always worthy of respect in this sort of contest. Felix De Giles takes the ride and this well related sort could be up to making a winning debut providing of course the market backs up that suspicion. It hasn't been a vintage year for the Alan King yard so far but a recent improvement in form suggests that might change, so his filly Honest Chance must be considered. It'll be interesting to see how the market assesses her chances in relation to stablemate Hurricane Milly but with Robert Thornton electing to ride her she is presumably the better fancied. On breeding she might just need further than this in time, but she cost plenty and connections will be hopeful of a decent first showing. Brixen made all to land a bumper in facile style having arrived from the point-to-point field, in the process showing she's the speed to cope with two miles. Carrying a penalty to victory will be tough but she represents the benchmark ahead of fellow winners Another Kate and Animation, both of whom will need considerable improvement to land this race. Alfie's Pearl has showed up well in two races, showing a liking for soft ground on the first occasion, but this is no easier and a place is her best hope. The booking of AP McCoy on Russie With Love catches the eye so she's worth a market check and indeed the betting will shed more light on this affair, but at this stage Kahlua Cove gets the vote.
