BATELEUR races under a penalty after winning a similar contest comfortably on Tuesday at Folkestone, but is still capable of landing this and is preferred to Louphole and Sam's Cross. He doesn't have the greatest draw, and isn't always the quickest to get into his stride, but was unfortunate not to win over this trip last month when landing a couple of runners up spots. He's been taken out of a race at Catterick to take part here, and with a big rise awaiting, it's sensible to turn him out quickly, and he remains well in at the weights. Louphole's only gone up three pounds for a Brighton win last month, in which Sherjawy was well down the field. He was held up that day, but that sort of racing style doesn't usually pay dividends here. Sam's Cross is joint top weight with the better drawn Golden Dixie, who's won off a much higher rating. Neither's won for a couple of but not for a couple of years. It's a trappy finale, with marginal preference for Bateleur.
