In depth

Verdict

Quartz Du Montceau has a 3lb pull in the weights with Hobb's Dream for the three-quarters of a length that separated the pair at Plumpton recently and there should not be much to choose between the two of them again here but both may have to settle for minor honours behind MONTANA GOLD, who gets the vote to gain a deserved first success of the season. Tim Vaughan's gelding has improved with each start this season and was narrolwy beaten behind Its A Classic at Fontwell last time for which a 5lb rise is perfectly fair and he can give weight away all round. Ray Mond is better than he showed behind Hobb's Dream at Plumpton and he should be suited by going right handed today so he cannot be discounted. David Pipe's Ronald Jack has slipped to a fair mark and he has to be respected with the yard's runners in good from now. Caroline Bailey's Wherrimon is hard to recommend on all known form and preference is for Tim Vaughan's Montana Gold, who looks to be going the right way and he can gain a deserved first success of the campaign.
