Verdict

WILLING FOE gets the vote for this eagerly anticipated handicap. He completed a hat-trick last month at Newmarket after two facile victories here. With the conditions of the race providing him with an advantage in the weights and in such good form, he receives the nomination to continue his winning run. Times Up has a length and a half to find on the selection based on their most recent run together with a similar amount of improvement needed against Senate, who looks the biggest danger. John Gosden trained the winner of this race last year and with the in-form Richard Hughes in the saddle he has viable prospects. Salden Licht is up 7lb after winning over course and distance and considering he only won by a head he may struggle to follow up in this highly competitive affair. La Vecchia Scuola is respected and worthy of strong consideration after finishing second in the Cesarewitch, but maybe she would prefer that stronger test of stamina. Palomar is another who would prefer a longer trip but the distance looks ideal for Tepmokea. He has won at the course before and is just 5lb higher after winning at York most recently so has to be a credible challenger for the frame. Cracking Lass also runs for Richard Fahey and if the ground really softens this would play in to her hands as she loves a race on testing conditions. Prospect Wells may just have found the trip a bit too far last time following a win on British turf debut in the Pontefract Castle Stakes. However, he carries top weight and has to find more here. Willing Foe is the selection in a fascinating race.
