Verdict

Marchese Marconi finished runner-up a year ago and is just 1lb higher. He's continued to run well and it would be no shock to see him go one better. Clondaw Warrior won a Tramore handicap by eight lengths in August but couldn't quite complete a quick double under a penalty two days later. However, he bounced back to score from a massive 22lb higher mark at Galway for which he's shot up another 13lb. Winter Lion completed a double in August then ran very well from a 10lb higher mark in a better race at Leopardstown where he may have had too much use made of him. Chris Hayes may hold him up this time and a big run is expected. Brian Ellison won this a year ago and sends Zeus Magic this time. He completed a double in minor handicaps before struggling in a much better race at Carlisle and he's never run beyond 1m4f. Dermot Weld holds a strong hand with Hidden Universe and GRECIAN TIGER. The former is an excellent stayer on a very handy mark considering his overall form but it's the latter who gets the nod as he needs a very stiff test of stamina which he's certain to get here. Leigh Roche gets the ride as Pat Smullen can't make the weight. Amanda Perrett's Blue Surf has a touch of quality and just failed to concede 20lb to Kashgar on his only start over this trip at Goodwood last month.
