Verdict
Martin Pipe's Gone Far, off the track since disappointing when beaten at odds of 4/11 in a novice event at Bangor in March, makes his first appearance of the season. The son of Gone West could be well treated off a mark of 131 but is difficult to evaluate and he may be best watched for the time. Topweight Benbyas has claims on the form shown when successful at Doncaster last month but is 1lb higher than when a well beaten third in the Ladbroke Hurdle at Ascot last month and may have too much weight now. Reviewer has left the stable of Martin Pipe since being pulled up in the Triumph Hurdle and faces a stiff task on his first start over hurdles for Hugh Morrison, while Swan Knight has his first start over timber for Richard Fahey having also been with Pipe last term. Ivanoph, a winner over fences at Wincanton this term, surprisingly reverts to hurdling and looks favourably treated. One Knight has shown little sign of encouragement since making a similar switch and it may pay to side with one of Nicky Henderson's two runners. The New Zealand-bred Classic Jazz showed decent form when beating Spectrometer on his only start in this country in June 2001 and, if fit enough after a long absence, he has to be respected but preference is for Volano. Although disappointing behind stablemate Chauvinist in the Ladbroke last time that was run on desperate ground. Earlier form behind Never in the Gerry Fielden is solid and, off a mark of 122, he is worth another chance.
