Verdict
SIR BOSS has an outstanding chance at the weights and is taken to score at the main expense of New England, Kochanski and Sea Land. Officially rated well clear of all his opponents, the Don Cantillon-trained selection is clearly best off with the way the race is framed here and won back-to-back handicaps over this trip last summer from marks of 68 and 74. Having gone up in the weights he failed to sparkle thereafter, and he returns today after a lengthy winter break. Despite those poor runs to end last season he looks the pick here and it will be a surprise if he is beaten. New England looks a major player as far as the frame is concerned. He has won in this sphere over 1m 4f at Wolverhampton and he comes here in reasonable form, so he could pick up some prize money. The same goes for Kochanski, who won a Beverley selling handicap over this trip on fast ground last July and now has a 9lb pull with Barbirolli for a three-quarters-of-a-length defeat back at that track a little later. Sea Land has enough ability to get involved, although this trip looks likely to stretch him and preference is for Sir Boss.
