Verdict
Dr Irv won this a year ago in the middle of a purple patch that brought three victories. He's only 6lb higher and ran well enough here last week to be considered again. ALMAGEST is back on the same mark as his last Success at Beverley in August. He's been racing at a higher grade subsequently and though this is tough a chance is taken on him getting back to his best. Dark Ruler is probably the form pick on his three runs this season but he likes soft ground and this could prove too quick. Hallstatt loves fast conditions and very nearly completed a hat-trick when beaten a head by Eagle Rock at Doncaster. The assessor may not have got to him yet and he's definitely on the shortlist. Miss Macnamara loves it around here and the fact that she flopped at Chester last time shouldn't be held against her but Sherman McCoy was beaten a distance at Ayr on Monday.
