Verdict
Mark Johnston introduces a son of Loup Savage in Carte Royale who is well drawn in stall 14 of the 14 runners but the stable's youngsters normally improve greatly with experience and preference is for Monsieur Mirasol, who gets the verdict over English Fellow. The last mentioned represents the stable of Bryan McMahon whose two-year-olds always warrant respect but the son of Robellino looked in need of more of a test of stamina on his Nottingham debut and is probably best watched today. Martin Todhunter's Almaty Express failed to build on the promise of his debut outing at Newcastle last time and is best left out of calculations, while Paris Bell may do better when running in nurseries. The David Evans-trained Glasson Lodge has shown signs of ability, while among the newcomers Paul Blockley's Balthasar makes more appeal than most. However, Monsieur Mirasol has run promisingly in both his outings so far having lost ground at the start on each occasion and, with a smarter break today, he looks worth a bet to open his account.
