Verdict
Barking Mad looks the one to beat in the first race on the card, with Mad Carew, Tomasino and Compton Eclaire seen as the main dangers. Barking Mad absolutely bolted up in claiming company at Beverley last month, beating his nearest rival by 11 lengths, and although today's rivals may provide a sterner test, it is hard to see Kevin Ryan's seven-year-old not being the one to beat again. Unlike like last time though when he had stones in hand, Barking Mad now faces a rival on the same mark in Mad Carew who beat an opponent rated 13lb superior at Windsor last month. He is a model of consistency and should give the selection a race. Tomasino was given a good ride when also landing a claimer at Newcastle, but it was a very weak affair in which Compton Eclaire was behind at least. However, he faces an uphill task against the principals, with Barking Mad taken to come out on top.
