Verdict
A race so competitive that finding the winner will be a real accomplishment; our vote goes to Lovelace who's hard as nails ahead of Utmost Respect and the beautifully bred Shevchenko. The selection has developed a good partnership with Jamie Spencer and having repelled all challengers in the closing stages when winning a Group Three last time out, he should relish this massive field. Any ground suits and with five wins from seven starts, he is a force to be reckoned with. The draw is hard to fathom as winners have come from various stalls over the years and it appears that the fairly recent re-laying of the turf is yet to fully 'bed in'. Shevchenko is in the neighbouring stall to the selection and Jeremy Noseda's charge has really got it together of late - unbeaten in his last three he is still improving and must go well despite a 9lb rise in the weights. Giganticus loves these big fields and must be respected, along with Danehillsundance and Docofthebay who are both at their best over this trip. Binanti ran well in defeat last time out and as he travels so well must be feared, along with Mutanaseb and Candidato Roy from powerful stables. Utmost Respect was impressive when winning the Silver Cup but this race is a lot tougher and whilst he shapes as though this trip will suit, and he is definitely on the upgrade, we are happy to take him on. Pins at the ready then, and ours falls down on Lovelace.
